Aldo-Edgar Superfight Re-Booked For UFC 156

The bout was briefly slated to headline UFC 153 in Rio before Aldo was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

“I’m pumped,” UFC president Dana White told USA Today when the bout was first made in August. “I think that people are going to be very excited for this fight.”

“This is not only a world title fight but also a superfight that has long been a dream match for many fans,” said White. “Aldo and Edgar are two fantastic fighters who are always a part of the pound-for-pound debate.”

Devin Cole believed he could always beat Arlovski

“I always thought that my style would be great with his style,” Cole told the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show on Monday. “He likes to stay on the outside, where I go forward and smother people. I thought my style would have competed with him when he was UFC champ. I always thought that I could beat him and now I get this chance.”

Shane Carwin flips out talking bout TUF final

Cung Le will face Franklin injured.

Le breaks it all down for Ariel Helwani:
"I didn't know how fast I was going to recover but I just did everything from ultrasound to blood letting where they draw blood out with cupping. I did that for like three weeks straight. I've kicked a couple of training partners in the head and that hurt but was ok. I'm hoping by fight time I'll be 100%. Definitely if this fight wasn't in Macau, China, even if I was in a main event somewhere else, I'd give myself the right amount of time so my foot could really heal. I feel like martial arts basically started from China and my roots are the Chinese martial arts. This is why I do it. I could just be doing movies, but I love to compete. I love to train martial arts. This is what I love to do. Here's my opportunity. To do it in China, it's awesome.

“It was my own carelessness. Its so bad,” he told Korean media. “This was such a big opportunity that I have been working really hard, sparring very hard, there were a lot of expectations and I had so many family and friends who bought tickets to fly to Macau. Its hard for me to express in words about this situation… its so bad.”
“I’ve missed the chance to debut in Macau now but it will only make me work harder and more determined to recover. I want to make a stunning fight maybe in the United States next year, February or March maybe,” says Kang.

Jon Fitch reveals Cain Velasquez injury going into JDS fight

Fitch speaking to Tatame told of Valasquez knee injury:

"I think, in the first fight, he didn't show it. He had a very severe injury on his knee and was limited in what it could do, but it was a struggle so important and impossible to lose. It was important for the company, for the fans and for everyone. He continued, even though I shouldn't. It was against the advice of everyone on the team, but was not an option at the time. Will be quite different with it and can show all his tools ".

When one faces Junior Cigano, all your opponents know that they are at a disadvantage, then seek soon falls. According to Fitch, Velasquez failed its purpose due to injury.

"He was bruised and thinking about his knee. He wanted to kick the legs of Junior, but he was thinking: "I can't kick". His head was thinking about what he could do and he was caught. The lesions make that part of your body doesn't work and your head begins to think of the lesion rather than do what you should do. You should be focused on the match and not thinking about anything else, like your girlfriend or something else. When your head is not in the fight, you get hurt. "

Sean Sherk rejects the notion of retirement

Speaking via MMAWeekly. Sherk said:
“I’ve just been injured. I’ve got some injuries that need surgery, and I really don’t want to have surgery. I’ve had surgery several times in the past, and the whole recovery process, I don’t like it. I don’t like the down time, the three to four months of getting back to 100-percent; I don’t like that. I’m trying to get myself healthy without having any kind of surgery. I mean I feel pretty good. I’d say I’m probably 85-percent, which is pretty good, considering.”

“I talk to Dana (White) from time to time and I talk to Joe Silva from time to time, and it’s just ‘let me know when you’re ready, when you’re healthy and feel like you want to get back in the cage, let me know.’ I’ve got two fights left under my contract with the UFC still, and I wouldn’t fight anywhere else anyways. UFC’s my home.
“I still think I’m a top lightweight even though I haven’t fought in two years. I think you can throw me in there against the No. 1 guy, and I’m going to give that dude hell, if not beat him. I don’t think anyone in the weight class is going to walk through me or look at me as being an easy fight. I’ve been beaten four times in 11 years, and I think that speaks for itself.”

“I don’t think I’ll ever have that mentality (about retirement). Eventually, I’m going to have to come to terms. Eventually, I’m going to have to walk away from the sport, but hopefully that’s not for a little while yet. When that time comes, I guess that’s a decision I’ll have to come to terms with.”

Phil Davis On Facing Forrest Griffin

Davis spoke to Sportsnet ’590 The Fan’ during the UFC Central program

“They contacted me about fighting Forrest (Griffin). Actually when I got off the plane from Brazil. I stayed in Brazil a couple of extra days. As soon as I got off the plane from Brazil, turned on my phone for the first time in two weeks…I get a ton of text messages. I’m going through my text messages and whenever you get sixty messages at once you have to go through the important ones first. I went to family. Typed all the ones to my management.”

“As soon as I got text messaged back from my management, I’m like ‘Oh crap, I have a fight in two months. I have to get back in shape.’ Not that I’m not in good shape but I have to stay in shape. I can’t get fat. I’m looking forward to getting fat, you know what I’m saying?”

"as soon as I got off the plane I got the text message to fight Forrest. Obviously he is a former champion. Well known inside the sport and out. It’s just an honor to fight him. I said ‘absolutely.’”

Both fighters possess similar styles, and Davis was asked his thoughts on battling someone with their mentality.

“I’d rather not go three rounds with a guy like that. He just keeps going you know. Exactly, exactly. He is just like a Stephan Bonnar. Those guys, they get bloodied up and ‘alright I’m ready to do this thing.’ I don’t really get it but that’s how they roll. You know, I like that know that a guys not going to be scared of you but he’s going to pressure you. That to me, that brings out the best of me. That brings out the fight in my game.”

“Sometimes when you face a guy who just wants to pick you apart with one strike here and there, it slows down the pace a lot. I want a fast paced fight. I want a ‘Fight of the Night’ you know.”
“I look forward to it, it should be awesome.”

Matt Riddle replaces 'Wonderboy' at UFC 154

The UFC have found an opponent for Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson , who was forced off the upcoming UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit event with a knee injury.
On Monday, the promotion identified Thompson’s replacement naming Matt ‘Deep Waters’ Riddle  as the man to take on Besam Yousef at the Canadian event.

From UFC.com:
With a knee injury sidelining Stephen Thompson from his UFC 154 bout with Besam Yousef, longtime welterweight standout Matt Riddle has answered the call, stepping up to meet the Swedish fighter at the Bell Centre in Montreal on November 17.

Rebney wants to keep Alvarez on hand.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said that Bellator has made free agent Eddie Alvarez an offer, and that if he accepts it, he stays in the Bellator fold. If he doesn't, Rebney will allow him to bypass the remaining 70+ days of the exclusive negotiating period and take his talents to the open market, where he will no doubt be MMA's hottest commodity.
If that happens, Rebney expects the situation to resolve itself quickly as the UFC is likely to swoop in with an offer, and Bellator will have a chance to match it.

BAMMA 11 - Greyson out injured, Creighton Faces Farycki

Nathan Greyson, due to fight Bryan Creighton at BAMMA 11, has been forced to withdraw from the Bantamweight Mixed Martial Arts bout due to a fracture to the hand incurred during sparring. Creighton will now face replacement Dawid Farycki in the preliminaries at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 1st December. Originating from Poland, Dawid Farycki trains out of London’s Team Titan with a record of 2-0-0 and is signed to Elite MMA Agency.

Neither of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt’s professional bouts has seen the distance, with victories by first round Armbar and second round Arm Triangle Choke.

Farycki said:
“I am very happy to have the opportunity to fight for BAMMA. This is very important to me and it will be a big step up in my career, if I put up a good fight and win. I am very excited for the event and can't wait to see my opponent inside the cage on 1st of December. My opponent is a strong, well-rounded fighter: I have seen fights where he knocks people out and I've seen him pulling submissions on other guys. In my opinion he is a tough opponent, but I train in the best gym in the country and I believe I am ready for him.”

BAMMA’s Managing Director, Ashley Bothwell, said:
“It’s always disappointing to see fighters having to pull out and very frustrating for them. The BAMMA team wishes Dyson and Nathan speedy recoveries and we look to seeing them on BAMMA in future. On the other hand, I’m looking forward to seeing Dawid step into the BAMMA cage. He’s phenomenally dangerous on the ground, while Fusilier Creighton is a highly decorated striker. Both fighters have the capacity to challenge each other in the area that will be most damaging and both are fearless. I can guarantee that sparks will fly when these two enter the cage.”

Professor X vs Jack Marshman set for BAMMA 11

BAMMA is proud to announce a Middleweight Mixed Martial Arts bout to headline the BAMMA 11 card at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 1stDecember, as Jack Marshman faces Xavier Foupa-Pokam.

Fresh off a decision loss to Claudio Henrique da Silva at the weekend, Xavier Foupa-Pokam or “Professor X” hails from Paris in France with a record of 22-18-0; and is currently signed non-exclusively to Indian promotion, Super Fight League.  The 30 year old shot to recognition during his brief stint in the UFC, and through his long career in British MMA, with Cage Rage and later with BAMMA.  With the majority of his victories by Knock Out, Foupa-Pokam holds notable conquests over Alex Reid, Tom Watson and Pierre Guillet. He has also faced tough names that include Paul Daley, Ninja Rua and Alex Makhonin (at BAMMA 5); and brings a wealth of experience back into the BAMMA cage.

With the support of the British Forces behind him, the atmosphere when paratrooper Jack Marshman hits the cage is never short of electric. Marshman (11-1-0) made his mark at BAMMA 7 when he survived a Ground n Pound attack to flip fortune around and win the BAMMA-Lonsdale British Middleweight belt. Following an effective title defence against Barnes at BAMMA 8, Marshman went on to unsuccessfully challenge Tom ‘Kong’ Watson for the World title at BAMMA 9, gaining his first loss. Marshman returned at BAMMA 10 to once more defend his British title, this time against Andrew Punshon. However he forfeited the Lonsdale belt when he weighed in heavier than agreed, and the fight went ahead as a non-title bout.  Previously renowned for his exemplary striking and extraordinary resilience on the ground, Marshman surprised submission specialist, Punshon, with his ground game and submitted him with a Triangle Choke in the first round.

Jack Marshman said:

“I’m feeling really good and I’m excited about this fight, mainly as this is my first bout at international level and it’s a step up I’m ready for. I always like to think I’m  more well-rounded than people think, and I showed fans that I’m much more than a boxer in my last fight. I’m up against someone who is experienced and skilled in all areas, so I will definitely need to prove that I’m a rounded fighter as I’m coming for the win. I’m really looking forward to returning to Birmingham for a third time. Both my most exciting fights have been in Birmingham and I expect it to be as exciting this time both for me and the fans.”

Randy Couture Talks Jones vs. Sonnen

"I'm not terribly surprised on either front really," Couture explained on Spike TV's MMA Uncensored Live. "I think at the end of the day it's a business decision. This is a business, and Chael Sonnen is going to bring it and hype up any single fight he's in. I think Jon Jones, in denying him on the short-notice eight-day fight, made it inevitable they were going to have to fight at some point. I think I would've taken eight-days training camp rather than a full training camp, but I'm not Jon Jones."

Couture goes on to say:

"Chael has a great opportunity to win this fight actually," Couture said. "Technically I see a similar style fight as Anderson Silva. If he wades through him and makes Jon Jones wrestle him the entire fight, I think he can win that.
"He can do it, but he needs that gameplan. He needs to make it a wrestling match, start to finish."

Ediane Gomes set for Incivta 4 and signs new 3 fight deal.

Earlier this month Gomes submitted Katalina Malungahu at Invicta FC 3  . Now she says she's been rewarded with a new 3 fight contract.
Gomes also told MMAjunkie.com she will face Hiroko Yamanaka ,she talks about preparing for the 5" hight advantage and training with guys to prepare.

"I've made a few calls to make sure I train with some tall guys," Gomes said. "She is very tall. In my weight category, my opponents are all humongous. My last opponent was tall and strong too. I'm short. I don't know why I weigh so much (for my height).

"I'll be very focused. It's going to be a bit complicated at (American Top Team) because it always gets somewhat empty around the holidays. But I spoke to them and they'll dedicate themselves to make sure I have a great training camp."

Cigano: "if I dont ko Velasquez I will submit him"

"That time it was perfect for me. My first strategy is always to knock my opponents out and I will try to do that again. I know Cain Velasquez, I respect him a lot. He's really tough. But I will give my best to win this fight, it doesn't matter where. Of course I want to knock him out but if the fight goes to the ground, I will be ready to submit him too. For sure (I think I can beat him on the ground), I train a lot of jiu-jitsu, Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I'm working on my takedown defense. I know he's a really good wrestler and he's going to try to take me down and use his ground-n-pound where he's very good but if the fight goes to the ground, I'm ready. Like I said, I'm ready to submit someone to really show how good I am in my jiu-jitsu."

Wanderlei Silva no longer interested in fights in the middleweight division

Speaking via Sherdog. Wanderlei said:
“I want to either fight a catchweight bout at 198 pounds (93 kg) or at light heavyweight. At middleweight, I’m very hungry. Right now, I’m doing weight training and some shadow boxing. I’m kind of on vacation now, paying attention to the family, but next year ‘Wand’ is back.”

Why Nick Diaz wants to fight Anderson Silva

In four months Nick Diaz will be eligible to return to the Octagon, following a one year suspension for failing a Nevada State Athletic Commission administered recreational drug test at UFC 143.
His trainer and manager Cesar Gracie has use the time wisely, trying to line up big matches; none is bigger than UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.

"Nick really wants this fight because he has great admiration and respect for Anderson as a fighter," explained Gracie. "Anderson Silva is a true martial artist, he studied martial arts, is a great representative of the sport. Nick loves martial arts and that, for him, is enough to put Anderson Silva as the opponent."

"I heard Dana White's statements saying that Nick will have to fight someone before having another chance at the title shot and there are a lot of fighters out there who would love this fight."
The most likely title shot on Diaz's horizon is against the winner of UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre vs. Interim Champion Carlos Condit, which takes place at UFC 154 on Nov. 17.

Miguel Torres looking forward to fighting under WSOF banner.

Speaking via MMAWeekly, Torres said:
“Going back to November, it was a big blow. I went through a lot to get back into the UFC, got back in and lost the fight. I didn’t follow the game plan and went out there and got caught with a punch and I got (released) again. The biggest thing for me to get back on track is to get stable.”

“It’s an exciting feeling to start in a new league and kind of have a homecoming fighting on the NBC Sports Network (where the WEC was broadcasted on during the channel’s Versus branding) and fight on a card with guys like Andrei Arlovski. I’ve been doing this for the past 13 years, so for me it’s business as usual. I’m going to go out and fight the same way, whether it’s the UFC or my back yard. I always dedicate myself 100-percent to my craft and my opponent is going to see the best Miguel Torres that he can possibly see.”

“I’ve trained with him in Florida, so I know what to expect out of him. I know what he’s good at, I know what I’m good at, and the most important thing is to go out there and fight my fight. I know I have to keep my distance, and when I do come in, I have to come in hard. I’ve got to close the distance, get him in the clinch and take him down to the ground. I know that middle-range is going to be his. But I know what I’m good at, and I know what I can do to give him a hard time. I don’t care who it is, who’s in front of me, or what their name is. I’m not worried about that. The only thing I’m worried about is going out there and taking my opponents out.”

Dan Hardy looking forward to working with Frank Mir again.

Speaking via ESPN. Hardy said:
“It’d be nice to fight in Vegas again and it’d be nice to do some more work with Frank. That worked really well last time, we both benefitted from each other. He had his title fight but I was fighting for my job at the time, so it kind of levelled out.
“I started working with him for the Nogueira fight in Canada and I was one of his sparring partners. They used me for his first and last round of sparring. So he had somebody quick in the first round, and then somebody to keep him moving in the last.
“The first round he beats me up, it’s like having a Jack Russell in front of him and he tries to smash me with this big right hand! But then in the last round I get my own back because I can outspeed him. It really helps because we clinch and I can really put all my muscle into it. He’s a top guy to work with.”

Pat Barry vs Shane Del Rosario set for TUF 16 Finale

Team Carwin’s striking coach Pat Barry will be joining the TUF 16 head coach Shane Carwin on The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale fight card on December 15th. Carwin will oppose fellow head coach Roy Nelson in the night’s main event, while Barry will take on former Strikeforce heavyweight Shane del Rosario.

Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos has signed with the Texas-based Legacy Fighting Championship

Sherdog confirmed the signing with LFC President Mick Maynard, though terms of the deal were not disclosed. MMAJunkie.com first reported the news on Saturday evening.

A former light heavyweight and middleweight talent, Santos has more recently competed as a welterweight, knocking out Marius Zaromskis in his 170-pound debut two years ago. Since that time, “Cyborg” has fought just twice, failing in his attempt to win the Strikeforce welterweight title from then-champion Nick Diaz in January 2011 and then suffering a technical knockout defeat to Canadian prospect Jordan Mein eight months later at “Barnett vs. Kharitonov.”

Cung Le rules out retirement and TRT

Speaking via BloodyElbow. Cung Le said:
“You know, I never really thought about it. I feel that if other athletes have low levels, and a doctor prescribes it, then that’s their decision to make. My decision is that I’ve gone this far without it, so I just want to finish out my career without the use of it. If Rich decides to do it or not, it’s his decision. For me, it just doesn’t change the gameplan. My back kick won’t discriminate. It will connect the same way and do the same damage. I’ve gone this far without assistance, so why mess with a good thing? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Le revealed the status of his contract.
“This isn’t the last fight on my contract. I actually have a six fight deal, so after this fight, it will be my half way mark. I’m taking it one fight at a time, and not looking too far ahead, right now. The crosshairs are on Rich Franklin, and nothing else.”

Badr Hari facing Attempted Manslaughter

The news were reported by AD.nl a Dutch news source then later followed up by Bloodyelbow.com
On July 9, Hari attended a party at the Amsterdam ArenA. Also at the party was Dutch millionaire businessman Koen Everink. At some point in the night, Everink was assaulted in his VIP box, badly beaten, with his ankle shattered to the point that he may never fully walk again.
Hari's name was quickly implicated in the case, though his exact involvement was unclear. After a period of police investigation that included Hari leaving the country and subsequently being named the prime suspect, the K-1 fighter came forward and admitted his guilt. According to Hari, yes, he had been directly involved in the attack and had struck Everink. With that admission of guilt, Hari was jailed, where he now awaits a court date.
He's been in a Dutch jail toAD.nl (a major Dutch news site) and is facing charges in 8 cases of violent assault including one for which he may be charged with Attempted Manslaughter, a crime that could mean a 10 year prison sentence.

MMABLOGSPOT™ "The Natural Born Killer" Carlos Condit Exclusive

I just Want to thank Carlos for taking the time out to do this short but sweet interview, with having such a big title fight coming up. "The Natural Born Killer" has a impressive record of 28-5 and ranked #2 Welterweight in the world. Carlos is set to face GSP at UFC154 on Nov.17 Which has been one of the most hyped fights this year.

Firstly wanna congratulate you on being the UFC interim welterweight champion! How does it feel having gold around the waist?

It was nice to win the fight against Diaz, but I won’t truly feel like I have the gold around my waist unless I beat Georges.

Coming off an impressive 5 fight wining streak! and you next match up being a guy with a 9 fight win streak how you see the going?

I don’t get into predicting how fights go, because often that is dictated by how the first couple of minutes go. It’s a feeling-out process, and we’ll see what happens after that.

Is it going to be the Condit we have seen previously with devastating stand up? or is it going to be a technical fight?

It’s going to be whatever the pace of the fight dictates.

Both you and GSP have trained under Greg Jackson! do you think you have picked up a similar style?

I don’t think so. There are so many things he does great, and some areas I need to work on. We’re from different places and have different training partners.

Who are your training partners at the minute? and are you picking up any different styles to previously displayed?

Everyone at Jackson’s basically is training with me and helping me for this fight.

Your last win was over Nick Diaz with a very impressive decision which earned you the interim title! did you think it was a close fight? As Diaz camp thinks it was too close!
Judge Cecil Peoples had it: 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9 for Condit.
Judge Patricia Morse Jarman had it: 10-9, 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9 for Condit.
Judge Junichiro Kamijo had it 10-9, 9-10, 10-9, 10-9, 9-10 for Condit.

I have answered many questions about that fight in the past 7 months and I feel it is time to move on.

Your last loss came to the hands of Martin Kampmann back in 2009 would you like to defend that?

Of course. At some point I am sure we will fight, but as of right now, I’m only focused on Georges.

Who do you see as a challenge in the Welterweight division?

All the fighters in this division are a challenge, but I aren't looking past GSP.

Is there anybody you would like to thank?

I wanna thank my family! My sponsors and all my fans. And the guys at Jacksons.

Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez won't need surgery

Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez was scheduled to face Pat Healy in September before injuring his shoulder. According to Melendez, he's healing nicely, but doesn't know when he'll return. "There's no definite yes," Melendez said. "It all depends if his body is healing on time as we anticipate." According to Melendez, he'll know mid-November.

Couture "Strikeforce will fold like WEC"

Speaking via MMA Uncensored, Couture said:
“Yeah, there are some questions there. I know the Showtime relationship with Zuffa has been rocky. I know they hoped to renew that relationship and build that relationship, but they weren’t able to pull that off. I think you’re gonna see the Strikeforce guys absorbed and plucked like they did the WEC. So, then the question is, is Ryan gonna be one of those guys they want to keep, or is he gonna be one of those guys that gets cut loose? Where are we gonna go with him? The Showtime contract’s up this year, so early next year, I think you’ll see something happen.”
He also believes his son, Ryan is capable of competing in the big show, but it’s something that he isn’t taking for granted.
“At the end of the day, it’s really Ryan’s decision. They’re not gonna do you any favors in the UFC. It’s the deepest division in their promotion, at 155. And, you only get one chance at it, really. I think Ryan’s right there. He’s knocking on the door, with the level of competition. He can do whatever he wants. I think he’s capable, but we’ll see where he ends up.”
