Top mixed martial arts (MMA) agent Malki Kawa has signed former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight champion Miesha “Cupcake” Tate to a representation agreement.
“I am excited to be working with Malki Kawa as I further my MMA career. My goal is to fight in the UFC and become the World Champion, and I believe working with Malki and his team at First Round Management gives me the best opportunity to achieve that goal,” Tate said.
“Miesha Tate is a force to be reckoned with in mixed martial arts,” Kawa stated. “She’s one of the top women’s fighters in the world, and we look forward to helping her achieve her goal of winning the UFC Women’s Championship.”
Tate is one of the top women’s fighters in the world, backed by a strong wrestling and grappling background.
As a professional mixed martial artist, Tate has racked up a 13-3 record, winning six fights by submission and three by TKO/KO. She has won seven of her last eight fights, with her most recent win being by submission over Julie Kedzie on Aug. 18. She was named the 2011 Female Fighter of the Year at the World MMA Awards.
Tate's accomplished wrestling and grappling career began at a young age. She won the 2005 high school state women’s wrestling championship in Washington. She then went on to represent the U.S. at the FILA Grappling World Championships in 2008 and 2009, winning a silver medal in No-Gi in 2008, and placing fourth in No-Gi 2009.
Tate currently trains in Yakima, Wash. at Yakima MMA. Fans can follow her on her official web site, CupcakeTate.com, and on her Twitter handle @MieshaTate.
