EFC Africa Slates 170, 145-Pound Title Bouts for Sept. 1 Card

EFC Africa Slates 170, 145-Pound Title Bouts for Sept. 1 Card

The 10th event from Extreme Fighting Championship Africa, Africa’s leading MMA promotion, is set to feature a pair of championship duels.

EFC Africa officials Monday revealed the complete, 10-fight bill for EFCA 10, which takes place Sept. 1 at Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World in Brakpan, Gauteng, South Africa. As with all recent EFCA events, the full card will be streamed live and free of charge on the promotion’s official website.

Topping the show will be EFCA welterweight champion Adam Speechly (Pictured), who will look to defend his title for the first time in a rematch with potent finisher Dallas Jakobi. The pair met previously in 2009, with Speechly earning a first-round submission victory.

Since then, Jakobi has embarked on a 4-1 run, including a current three-fight win streak in the cage of EFCA. The 29-year-old Durban native was last seen in April, when he stopped Wade Henderson with second-round elbows at EFCA 8. On the same card, Speechly, 22, left the opening round for the first time in his career, but once again submitted fellow ground specialist Nolan Swanepoel to become EFCA’s inaugural welterweight titleholder.

EFCA’s first featherweight champ will be crowned on Sept. 1 when “King” Leo Gloss takes on dangerous up-and-comer Demarte Pena.

Gloss, a former professional boxer, has racked up an 8-2 record since turning to MMA in 2009, scoring knockouts in seven of his eight victories. The 36-year-old has competed at all but one EFCA event and is unbeaten in his last five outings since dropping to featherweight. Also perfect in his short EFCA career is the 21-year-old “Wolf” Pena, who recorded a 24-second submission win in his February debut before outpointing fellow youngster Jean-Luc Kazadi in April.

Undercard bouts will see four more of the promotion’s top welterweights in action, as Nolan Swanepoel clashes with Leon Mynhardt and Martin van Staden meets Dino Bagattin. Also at welterweight, Brazilian veteran and former Wanderlei Silva-training partner Jadyson Costa will make his African debut against Wade Henderson.
