That's according to UFC President Dana White, who informed MMAFighting.com that Clay Guida is still behind wrecking ball Jim Miller in the lightweight pecking order:
Having too many title contenders is hardly a bad thing but the current 155-pound championship picture is as disorganized as it is deep.
Anthony Pettis, who just a few months ago was the number one contender until champion Frankie Edgar battled to a draw with Gray Maynard, is now on the outside looking in after dropping a decision to the previously mentioned Guida last night (June 4) at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale.
"The Carpenter" didn't quite get the rub he was hoping for, however, not if White's words ring true, and there is no reason to believe they won't. Miller, who has won seven consecutive fights and is 21-2 overall, just might finally be in position to get the title shot he's worked so hard for.
Of course, he'll first have to get past Ben Henderson this coming Aug. 14 at UFC on Versus 5 in Milwaukee. That's the same "Bendo" that Pettis defeated to earn his title shot in December of last year.
That's all without mentioning Melvin Guillard, who could catapult himself right into the discussion with another impressive victory over Shane Roller at UFC 132 on July 2.
Oh, and there's also that Gilbert Melendez fellow who just so happens to be the Strikeforce lightweight champion and has been calling for a unification bout.
