The UFC's return to the Big Easy is expected to take place at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with event sources that the convention center is the likely venue, which is now expected to host "UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou" on Sept. 17.
The night's main card, including Alan Belcher vs. Jason MacDonald, airs on Spike TV.
The UFC hasn't held an event in Louisiana since UFC 37 in May 2002. That event took place in Bossier City. The UFC's most recent event in New Orleans was UFC 27, which took place at Lakefront Arena in September 2000.
UFC officials previously announced the host city for UFC Fight Night 25 but not the actual venue.
The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center's conference auditorium seats more than 4,000 fans, though it's not clear exactly where the UFC show would take place and with what seating configuration.
UFC Fight Night 25 is part of a major sponsorship deal between the UFC and Bud Light, which is the presenting sponsor of the event. (Bud Light will sponsor one such event each year as part of the deal.) It's resulted in an early promotional push for the show, which has drawn interest from many of the UFC's Southeast-native fighters, including Belcher, Tim Credeur and Melvin Guillard.
