Dana White: Roy Nelson looked terrible against Frank Mir, needs to lose weight

Roy Nelson, who came into his UFC 130 co-main event fight last night (May 28, 2011) with title aspirations on his mind, put on a performance his boss described quite simply as "terrible."
"Big Country" was battered and badly beaten by Frank Mir, not only losing definitely in the stand-up but also getting soundly outgrappled and thrown around for three rounds.
That's not the worst part, though.
What was particularly troubling to UFC President Dana White was the fact that both heavyweights were heaving after only one round of action, Nelson especially. The former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner looked as though he was close to cardiac arrest at various points in the night.
As White told MMAFighting.com, Roy's gimmick of being a fat man who can fight needs to end and it needs to end soon.
"I thought Big Country (Roy Nelson) looked terrible tonight. He sat up here talking about (how) he got out-wrestled. He looked terrible tonight. He needs to make some serious career decisions. People talk about him making 205... listen, that would be a huge life change and a tough thing for him to do. How bout 240? Let's make 240, Roy. The fat thing was funny for a while; it's not funny anymore. It's not funny when you're the co-main event in a big fight like that and the fight looks the way that it did."
The opening round saw five money minutes, complete with technical stand-up striking, savvy submission attempts, strong wrestling and clinch game and even a sweet, sweet judo throw.
And then, the sloppiness.
Any time two 260-pound behemoth's climb inside the Octagon and get to tossing each other around, the wind is going to disappear ... and fast.
That was the case with both "Big Country" and Mir, who battled through fatigue and muscle atrophy to take it to the man that defeated him, in a grappling match no less, back in 2003.
What's next for Nelson? He says, "It's time for Roy 1.1. Roy 1.1 is putting putting strength and conditioning in to the program, So I can be bigger stronger faster or smaller and wirey."
Before last night, a potential title shot was on the table. Today, a diet.
The winds, oh how they change.
