Nick Ring vs. James Head added to UFC 131 in Vancouver

A middleweight bout between Nick Ring (11-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and promotion newcomer James Head (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been added to June's UFC 131 event.

UFC officials today announced that verbal agreements are in place for the fight.

UFC 131 takes place June 11 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver with a heavyweight headliner between "The Ultimate Fighter 13" coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.

The main card airs on pay-per-view, though Ring vs. Head likely will be part of the preliminary card.

Ring, who competed on "The Ultimate Fighter 11" but left after the quarterfinals due to a knee injury, recently kept his perfect record intact with a controversial unanimous-decision victory over Riki Fukuda at UFC 127 in February. Most people had felt Fukuda had won the fight, though Ring got the decision via 29-28 scores across the board. Ring, who's also 4-1 as a pro boxer, has won seven of his 11 MMA fights via stoppage.

Head makes his UFC debut following a February upset of former UFC fighter Gerald Harris, which came via unanimous decision. The Oklahoman owns stoppages in six of his seven pro wins, and his lone loss came to UFC veteran Jesse Forbes in a 2008 regional show.

The latest UFC 131 card now includes:
