UFC officials announced overnight that verbal agreements are in place for the fight.
UFC 130 takes place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The pay-per-view headliner pits lightweight champ Frankie Edgar against Gray Maynard for a third meeting between the two.
As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported, UFC 130 is expected to get a "UFC Prelims" special. However, McKenzie vs. Palaszewski is expected to be part of the untelevised preliminary card.
McKenzie, a quarterfinalist on "The Ultimate Fighter 12," opened his career with 12 straight victories, which included a win over Aaron Wilkinson at the reality show's live finale. Like the victories fights before it, that UFC-debut win ended in a modified guillotine choke that the Alaskan affectionately named "the McKenzietine." However, in a late-notice bout at UFC Fight Night 23 in January, he suffered his first career loss when Yves Edwards submitted him with a rear-naked choke.
McKenzie faces another tough veteran in Palaszewski, a longtime IFL and WEC fighter who now makes his UFC debut. Since a career-worset 2-7 skid that resulted in a brief WEC exit in 2009, Palaszewski has posted four victories in five fights. However, a four-fight win streak recently came to an end with a close split-decision loss to Kamal Shalorus at WEC 53, which marked the organization's final show.
The latest UFC 130 card now includes:
MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)
