UFC Quick Quote: Will Antonio Rogerio Nogueira be cut with a loss to Phil Davis?

"The fights in UFC are difficult, the level is the highest and losses happen. It's important to face guys who are at the top. Fighting against the best is what matters. If the event is matching up great combatants then it means I’m well ranked. I don’t think about [being released]. I don’t know whether [the UFC] would cut me. When you go to a fight you have to focus just on the victory. You always should be positive. It’s true [Davis] has more to earn with the fight than me but Phil is an athlete in ascension. Boxing is the way to beat him for sure. He normally uses the jiu-jitsu well besides wrestling. The way for me can be on the feet."
Rolling stone? Or stepping stone? Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has a lot to prove in his UFC Fight Night 24 headliner against up-and-coming light heavyweight Phil Davis this Saturday night (March 26) in Seattle. After a controversial win against Jason Brilz last May in a fight that saw him dominated by good wrestling, "Lil' Nog" was handled by Ryan Bader (also a collegiate wrestler) at UFC 119 later that year. Does a loss to "Mr. Wonderful," a NCAA champion, signify the Brazilian's complete inability to be competitive against a new generation of mixed martial artists? And would the promotion cut him if he proves to be ineffective? Nogueira tells Terra Magazine (via Brasile Combate) he's only worried about his performance this weekend. Can the former PRIDE star use his boxing and jiu-jitsu to get back into the mix? Opinions on this 205-pound match-up and its possible ramifications?
