UFC 128: 'Shogun vs Jones' prelims broadcast draws 1.3 million viewers on Spike TV
Spike TV's "UFC Prelims" special for UFC 128: "Shogun vs. Jones" on March 19 drew 1.5 million viewers, down from the record-breaking 2.0 million it garnered for UFC 126: "Silva vs. Belfort" but not far off from the season average of 1.45 million, according to MMA Weekly.
The two-fight broadcast from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, featured light heavyweight striker Luiz Cane pounding out the returning Eliot Marshall via first round technical knockout.
Also making some noise on free TV in the UFC 128 "Fight of the Night" was Edson Barboza, who outpointed Anthony Njokuani en route to a unanimous decision win.
"UFC Prelims" for March 19 pulled in a 0.85 household rating including a .92 in Men 18-49 and 1.03 in Men 18-34.
UFC 128: "Shogun vs. Jones" featured the genesis of "Bonesmania" after 205-pound phenom Jon Jones ripped the light heavyweight strap from the listless fingers of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
But that's not all.
Former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber made his Octagon debut with a convincing unanimous decision win over the scrappy Eddie Wineland while Brendan Schaub climbed another notch in the heavyweight rankings by airmailing Mirko Cro Cop back to Croatia.
