UFC 131 – Shane Carwin reveals Jon Olav Einemo requested him as an opponent on the Vancouver card

Former UFC interim heavyweight champion, Shane Carwin has today revealed that his UFC 131 opponent, Jon Olav Einemo actually requested him to be his first opponent inside the octagon, a fight that will go down June 11th in Vancouver, Canada.
Posting via his personal blog site, Carwin said:
“I got a call from my manager yesterday saying that this Jon Olav Einemo had asked to fight me. I was waiting on the Russow Maddsen outcome but I guess the UFC liked this match up. For me I just want an opponent. I [think] Jon has a great background and is someone we will take very seriously.”
“I have had a long lay off and I am excited to have an opponent. I am a competitor and I train to compete at the highest levels and against the best. I want to get a shot at that belt, I am going to do my best to make sure nothing or no one stands in my way. I am excited to be on the UFC 131 card in Vancouver.”
Carwin hasn’t seen action since he was defeated by then champion, Brock Lesnar back in July of last year. He captured the interim heavyweight title back in March of last year, stopping another former champion in the for of Frank Mir in the very first round. Stay tuned to MMABay in the coming weeks for more build-up to this one as we get it.
