When the lightweight fighters step into the cage, it's a safe bet they'll put on a show, complete with non-stop action and a pace that would make the heavy boys cry.
That's exactly what we got from Jim Miller and Kamal Shalorus on the main card of UFC 128: "Shogun vs. Jones," with Miller coming in and taking it to the Iranian en route to a third round technical knockout victory.
Miller, whose ridiculous record (20-2) is unmatched in the 155-pound division, has only ever lost to the champion of the weight class, Frankie Edgar, and the number one contender to the title, Gray Maynard.
In fact, many fans and pundits cried foul when he was matched up against Shalorus, who was making his UFC debut. The thought was that Miller is simply too good for "The Prince of Persia."
Those thoughts were proven exactly right.
From the outset it was clear that Miller was looking to put an empathic stamp on this fight, perhaps feeling as though that's what he needs to do to earn his long-awaited title shot in the stacked lightweight division.
He spent the duration of the bout landing clean hard strikes, including a couple head kicks that only an iron chin could withstand.
However, eventually, the accumulated shots took their toll, as the AMA Fight Club product landed an uppercut followed by a huge knee to put Shalorus on his ass and finished him shortly thereafter with a few hammerfists from hell.
This marks the seventh consecutive win for Miller. So who does he want? "I'm ready for the title shot," he said.
Is it finally time to grant his wish?
