Fighting through adversity is what makes champions. And there are very few who can say they have fought through as much as Dan Miller.
Problems at home and a late switch in opponents were just a few factors going against him coming into tonight's middleweight showdown against Nate Marquardt.
Unfortunately, the mountain proved too tall to overcome, as the New Jersey native lost in front of his home crowd by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
The scrappy Miller, who relished the opportunity to step up to the main card and prove himself with just a week to prepare for a perennial title contender like Marquardt, simply didn't have the gas tank nor the overall game to contend with the diverse Greg Jackson product.
It looked good for Miller in the early part of the fight, as he threatened with a guillotine and earned himself a takedown, outworking his foe in opening frame, although the scores do not reflect as much.
However, as the fight wore on, it became clear Marquardt was the better striker and wouldn't be denied a return to the win column after his devastating loss to Yushin Okami back at UFC 122.
The win puts Nate back on track in the crowded middleweight division, while sending Miller to his first loss in three fights.
