CFC 16 – Hector Lombard makes short work of Joe Doerksen with a first round doctors stoppage

Bellator middleweight champion, Hector Lombard notched another successful defence of his Cage Fighting Championships middleweight crown at the CFC 16 event on Friday night in Sydney, Australia, defeating former UFC veteran, Joe Doerksen in the very first round after a doctor stopped the bout.
Lombard landed a powerful left hook to begin with and Doeksen immediately went into survival mode looking for the takedown. When it did hit the mat it was Lombard who was on top though where he attacked with a flurry of punches and elbows. The referee stood the pair up when the action slowed only for Lombard to send Doerksen crashing back to the mat with a right hook. Again Lombard landed a flurry of punches and elbows, opening a sizeable cut in the process. The ringside physician stepped into the cage to examine Doerksen and noted that he could see as deep as his skull and therefore waved the fight off.
The powerful fighter has now gone twenty-two fights unbeaten spanning the last four years. He could make it twenty-three fights when he returns to the Bellator cage in May when he faces Falaniko Vitale in a non-title bout.
