MMABay poll results – Did Gray Maynard defeat Frankie Edgar at UFC 125 and does he really deserve a rematch?

We’ve been asking you all week whether you agree UFC’s decision to grant lightweight contender, Gray Maynard an immediate rematch after he walked away with a split draw last weekend at UFC 125 in Las Vegas, Nevada and this time we got a definitive answer to the question.
Topping the poll with 36% (249 votes) were those of you who said it was definitely a draw and he deserves a rematch with Frankie Edgar. Combine that with the 22% (147 votes) of you who said he won the fight and deserves a rematch AND the 13% (91 votes) of you who said he lost the fight but does deserve a rematch, we have a massive 71% of you who say he should get a second shot at the title one way or the other. Coming second in the poll were the 29% (196 votes) of you who said WEC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis should get the next shot as promised, something that unfortunately for him won’t be happening.
The big problem the promotion will have is how to market it. Over the last eighteen months we’ve had a glut of fights (especially title fights) that have been booked back-to-back and never really garnered the same interest second time around. Machida vs. Shogun and Edgar vs. Penn are to name but two. Fans like variety, especially when it comes to a division that is severely lacking in what I would call “the superstar stakes”. That said the fight surpassed many people’s expectations, with fans fearing it would turn out to be some glorified lightweight hugging contest for five rounds, although we do have to do it all over again so there’s still time folks!
