Rousey, Budd Agree to November Strikeforce Showdown

A women’s 145-pound affair between Ronda Rousey and Julia Budd is in the works for a to-be-named November Strikeforce event.

Promotion officials announced the news Wednesday via Twitter, but did not mention a specific date or location for the contest. According to Strikeforce, verbal agreements are in place for the bout.

A decorated judoka, Rousey (Pictured) took home bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Following a brief amateur career, Rousey rattled off two lightning-quick submission victories in local competition before signing with Strikeforce.

The 24-year-old debuted in the hexagonal cage at Strikeforce Challengers 18, notching an impressive, though controversial, victory over Sarah D’Alelio via armbar. Rousey has submitted all three of her pro opponents in the first round, and no one has yet to make it past the one-minute mark with the Californian.

Budd has fought the entirety of her pro career in the Strikeforce cage. A former kickboxer, the muay Thai stylist debuted with the promotion last October, knocking out Shana Nelson in the second round. Her next outing would not go as well, as Budd was destroyed by Amanda Nunes in just 14 seconds this past January.

Budd rebounded from the defeat in her most recent bout, as the 28-year-old used improved wrestling to grind out a unanimous decision victory over fellow striker Germaine de Randamie on June 24 at Strikeforce Challengers 16.
