UFC 131 – Jason Young admits he’s been thrown in at the deep end but roars: “I’m no small fish”

UFC featherweight newcomer, Jason Young has been giving his thoughts on his octagon debut this coming weekend when he takes on outstanding striker Dustin Poirier on the UFC 131 card in Vancouver, Canada, admitting the number one promotion in the world has dropped him in at the deep end but he intends on keeping up with the big fish.
Speaking via ESPN.co.uk Young said:
“Obviously if I have a bad start and lose my first two, the chances are I won’t see the third one. My first fight is a really hard fight, Dustin Poirier, he’s No. 6 in the world so they’ve put me in the deep end. But I’m no small fish.”
“I never thought my next fight would be Bruce Buffer announcing me. Now I’ve got to make up my own calling card. Dan Hardy’s got his, Paul Daley… My nickname’s Shotgun – I can’t really bring a gun to the cage!”
Young will be riding a two-fight streak into the bout and is 4-1 in his last five, with his only loss coming against fellow UFC fighter Paul ‘Sassangle’ Sass. Poirier is also looking for his third consecutive win following victories over Grispi and Zack Micklewright. Their bout will feature on the preliminary portion of the UFC 131: Lesnar vs Dos Santos card and will likely air live on Facebook.
