TUF 13 Finale main card spotlight – Ed Herman vs. Tim Credeur

Two middleweights fighting for their UFC employment meet on the undercard as Ed ‘Short Fuse’ Herman squares off with ‘Crazy’ Tim Credeur in Las Vegas. Former Team Quest fighter Herman has not fought since UFC 102 in August 2009 when he suffered a severe knee injury during his fight with Aaron Simpson which stopped the fight in the second round. Prior to that, the Portland, Oregon native had broken a two-fight losing streak by beating veteran David Loiseau by unanimous decision. The runner-up of season three of TUF, ‘Short Fuse’ cannot afford another loss and with a hefty amount of ring-rust undoubtedly clinging to him Herman could be up against it this weekend.
Fortunately for Herman, Tim Credeur has also been on the sidelines for a long spell and the Louisiana native has not fought since September 2009 when he dropped a decision to Nate Quarry in one of the fights of the year. The TUF season seven graduate had been on a three-fight winning streak before that defeat – finishing Cale Yarbrough, Nate Loughran and Nick Catone in the process. The durable middleweight has suffered some mysterious injury problems of late, with some rumours suggesting that a brain-scan detected complications, but with spots on the roster hard to secure right now the ‘Crazy’ one needs to win badly in Las Vegas.
The Verdict: A tough fight to call this one, as both men are coming off lengthy injury spells and ring-rust will definitely play a factor for at least one of these middleweights come fight night. Herman has the wrestling advantage and a decent pair of hands but Credeur has the BJJ to hold his own on the ground and the chin and power to possibly edge the stand-up. However, the key to the fight could be Herman’s inconsistent submission defence, something Credeur has the skills to expose. Expect a close opening round or two before Credeur snags a tiring Herman in something off his back. Credeur, submission, 2ndround.
