Shark Fights 16 slotted for June 25 with Neer vs. Juarez, Mutapcic vs. Young

Shark Fights 16 is slated for June 25, and the co-headlining fights are apparently set.

The main event pits UFC veteran and current interim Shark Fights welterweight champ Josh Neer (29-10-1) against Jesse Juarez (15-7), and Elvis Mutapcic (8-1) meets fellow middleweight Arteneas Young (6-3) in the co-main event, according to the fighters' management team.

According to the organization's website, Shark Fights 16 takes place in Odessa, Texas, likely at Ector County Coliseum.

Currently, no live-broadcast plans have been announced, but the show will air on a three-week delay on Fuel TV, which recently expanded a deal with the Texas-based promotion.

Neer looks for his third straight win and fifth victory in six fights since a 2009 UFC release. Neer, whose lone loss in the stretch came to Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez in a non-title fight, won the interim Shark Fights title with an early-2010 submission victory over Anselmo Martinez. Of Neer's 29 career victories, 25 now have come via stoppage.

Juarez, a Bellator and Strikeforce veteran, posted an impressive nine-fight win streak before a recent submission loss to Douglas Lima for the MFC welterweight title. The Californian is 9-1 since opening his pro career with a meager 6-5 record.

Mutapcic, meanwhile, is a top middleweight prospect from Iowa. His only defeat came via split decision to undefeated Andy Branson, and since then, Mutapcic has posted a five-fight win streak with victories over notables such as Strikeforce vet Zak Cummings and submission specialist Josh Rosaaen.

Young, a onetime Strikeforce fighter, recently made his Shark Fights debut. The Texan scored a first-round TKO of Kyle Bracey, who was coming off a win over notable Eric Davila.
