Fresh on the heels of his unanimous decision win over Mark Hominick at UFC 129, it looks like Jose Aldo will likely make his next title defense on Aug. 6 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at UFC 133 against Chad Mendes.
Here's what Dana White had to say about the possibility of the fight at the "St. Pierre vs. Shields" post-fight press conference:
"That's a curveball for me right now, (but) I think we're looking at Jose possibly fighting in Philly. ... Probably (against Chad Mendes). Kenny Florian couldn't be ready by then. Chad Mendes is 10-0, undefeated. Makes sense."Aldo battled through a tough weight cut and a game Canadian in Hominick to defend his 145-pound title in his Octagon debut. Chad Mendes, as previously noted by Dana White, is undefeated in his young mixed martial arts career, having defeated all 10 of the men he's gone up against.
That includes a 4-0 mark in the WEC and an impressive three-round decision win over Japanese import Michihiro Omigawa in his UFC debut.
That's enough to earn him a title shot less than three years after he began his mixed martial arts career.
Not bad.
UFC 133 is quickly filling up with compelling match-ups. Aldo vs. Mendes sounds likely to serve as the main event of the evening, what will it being for a title and all. Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis is also set for the card.
On top of that, Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama and Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira have been added to the event, as well.
