TORONTO – As expected Saturday's UFC 129 event proved a record-breaker and set new UFC and North American MMA records with a 55,724 attendance and $12.075 million gate ($11.5 million Canadian).
The event took place at Toronto's Rogers Centre.
The event, which was the UFC's first stadium show, saw its main card air on pay-per-view, and preliminary-card fights aired on Spike TV and streamed on Facebook. A UFC Fan Expo event preceded the show, which featured welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields and featherweight champ Jose Aldo vs. Mark Hominick in the co-headliners.
The previous records were $5,397,300 (UFC 66) and 23,152 (UFC 124).
With a quick sellout, heavy local media interest, and a record 300 credentialed media members from six continents, UFC 129 has set the stage for a return trip to Toronto.
"We'd be back next Saturday if we could," White joked.
