During the final five minutes of the free UFC 130 Spike TV preliminaries, UFC President Dana White announced that the former heavyweight champion had surgery yesterday which resulted in the removal of a foot of his large intestines in response to his recent relapse of diverticulitis. The reoccurrence forced the ex-WWE star out of his number one contender match against Junior dos Santos.
White reiterated that he's hopeful Lesnar will be able to make his return to the Octagon by the first of the year in 2012.
Brock had his original flair-up with diverticulitis in late 2009 while preparing for a title fight with Shane Carwinat UFC 106 Lesnar would become violently ill with the intestinal disorder.
The ex-champ nearly died from his bout with the disease, which was initially misdiagnosed as mononucleosis. However, he miraculously bounced back to not only make a full recovery, but to go on and defend his title against the previously mentioned Carwin in what turned out to be one of the greatest UFC heavyweight comebacks of all time.
He would drop his title to Cain Velasquez in Oct. 2010 and was hoping to earn a title shot against dos Santos at UFC 131.
Unfortunately, on May 12, 2011, it was announced that Lesnar would be forced to pull out of the dos Santos fight thanks to another, albeit less serious, flare up of his ongoing intestinal ailment.
Brock made sure to make it clear that his second go-round with diverticulitis is not nearly as devastating as the first and he will "definitely" not be retiring anytime soon.
Will the loss of a foot of intestines affect "The Next Big Thing" as he tries to regain his old form? Will he be able to make a full comeback or will Lesnar be a shadow of his former self?
