Tatsuya Kawajiri reveals he’s been doing no training geared towards fighting in a cage ahead of rematch with Melendez

Japanese lightweight powerhouse, Tatsuya Kawajiri has been speaking about his preparations for his upcoming showdown with Strikeforce champion, Gilbert Melendez, explaining he’s been doing no specific training to deal with fighting inside a cage.
Speaking to MMABay.co.uk during this week’s media conference call, Kawajiri said:
“I have been training as usual, with no specific training geared toward fighting in the cage. I’m always fighting for myself, and this fight is just between me and Gilbert. But, I do have to meet the expectations of my fans and my friends, so I am looking forward to seeing my friends, fans and family smiling after fight.”
“I feel that I am a [better] MMA fighter [now], and I will be able to fight a smarter fight this time. I’m obviously training to become a better MMA fighter every day, so that’s what I’m looking forward to in my second fight against Gilbert.”
Kawajiri has already fought and lost to the Strikeforce lightweight champion, going down via decision back on New Year’s Eve 2006 at PRIDE – Shockwave. Can he reverse his fortunes and put a stop to “El Nino” working his way through the ranks of Japanese fighters?
