Fabricio Werdum to do list: Defeat Alistair Overeem, win Strikeforce grand prix and unify title with UFC

It's good to have goals in life. Whether or not they're attainable is an entirely different matter.
That's not to say Fabricio Werdum is aiming too high with his veritable "to do" list. All he wants to accomplish is to defeat Alistair Overeem, go on to win the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix tournament and then move over to the UFC to unify the two heavyweight titles.
That's not too much to ask, is it?
Phase one of that plan will be difficult enough, as "Vai Cavalo" will head into the Overeem fight having been off for nearly an entire year. "The Demolition Man" is a big enough problem without having to worry about ring rust.
But that's exactly what Werdum will be contending with come June 18 in Dallas, Texas.
Can he overcome the seemingly long odds facing him and achieve his goals, say, by some time next year? He believes as much and tells Tatame that "things seem to be conspiring" in his favor.
"My main goal is to beat Overeem, get to the next phase, and I've beaten Overeem in 2006 in Pride's GP on the first phase of the event, so things seems to be conspiring in my favor, it'll be in June, my month, so things are good for me. So, I want to win this GP and then do this super fight against whoever UFC champion is. I don't know if it'll be Velasquez, dos Santos, or other guy... Whoever is the UFC champion is the one I want to fight, that's what I want to do. I want to unify the titles, like it happens on Boxing."
Werdum and Overeem have indeed met once before, an second-round submission victory for the Brazilian by way of kimura back in 2006 in the opening round of the PRIDE openweight grand prix.
Will history repeat itself?
If it does, the Chute Box fighter will move on the face Antonio Silva, who will be coming off his absolute shellacking of legendary Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko.
Even with a win in that theoretical fight, Werdum would have to go on to defeat either Sergei Kharitonov, Josh Barnett or Brett Rogers to win the grand prix, a tall order, indeed.
