Jay Hieron talks about his close call against Brent Weedman in the Bellator tournament semi-finals

Former UFC and Strikeforce star, Jay Hieron has been speaking about his close decision win over Brent Weedman in the Bellator tournament semi-finals this past weekend, explaining it’s good to face adversity and come through it once in a while.
Speaking via MMAJunkie.com, Hieron said:
“It’s good to go through fights like that – to dig deep and know what you’re made of, and that’s what I had to do Saturday. I’m a counter-fighter. I was going backward, but I was making my shots count.”
“I was in defense mode for a reason. His whole style is just straight forward, straight at you. A guy like that, you want to use angles. I was using angles, finding spots where I could hit him, and [moving]. He was more aggressive coming forward, but I was doing more damage. It’s good that the judges know what they’re watching sometimes.”
“I felt great that I had a great fight like that. I believed I won the fight. There’s going to be some people that disagree with me. That’s on them. Sometimes it goes smooth out there; sometimes it’s a grind. Lucky for me, I know how to do both. I’m prepared for 15 (minutes). I’m prepared for 25.”
Hieron now faces the final before possibly getting his hands on current Bellator welterweight champion, Ben Askren before the year is out. After reviewing the footage of Saturday night’s fight it was certainly a close one but there is no doubt in my mind that Hieron did enough to get his hand raised on the night.
