From the rink to the cage: Former NHL enforcer Donald Brashear signs with Ringside MMA
Former NHL cheap-shot artist Donald Brashear has decided to make the jump from ice to canvas at the age of 39 years old, reaching a verbal agreement with Canadian-based organization, Ringside MMA.
MMADieHards.com reports that Brashear signed a one-fight deal with the option to compete in as many as three. However, he has not formerly filed for his license to compete in mixed martial arts.
If the 6'3," 240-pound amateur boxer does get licensed soon, he could make MMA debut as quickly as June 4, 2011, at Ringside 11 in Quebec City.
Brashear, who played for several hockey clubs throughout 16 professional seasons, including the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers, among others, accumulated a mere 205 points in 1,025 games, but did take in a staggering 2,634 minutes of penalties.
We clearly see what his hands were made for .... and they ain't made for netting the twine.
