The opening bout of UFC Fight Night 24: "Nogueira vs. Davis" featured a rematch of what many considered the "Fight of the Decade."
Chan Sung Jung made his debut in the Octagon looking to exact revenge against the man that defeated him at WEC 48, Leonard Garcia. It was nowhere near the level of the first fight, but it was perhaps just as memorable ... and maybe more.
Were they able to live up to the absurdly high expectations created by the nature of their first contest?
In some ways no and in some ways yes. No, because it wasn't a three-round war, yes because Sung Jung submitted Garcia with a rarely seen twister.
Impressive -- and painful.
What makes this win especially gratifying for "The Korean Zombie," besides gaining the revenge he surely wanted, was he snapped a two-fight losing streak under the Zuffa banner. And he did it by being the better, more technically complete fighter.
It was clear from the get-go that neither of the featherweight brawlers wanted to get sucked into a repeat of the first match, a wild-winging war that saw both guys take shot after shot until the judges decided a winner.
Jung came up on the short end in that bout, and made sure not to leave it up to anyone but himself, as he dominated "Bad Boy" when the fight hit the mat. In both rounds, he was better on the floor but it was the second frame that saw him lock in the twister.
Joe Rogan let the world know in the post-fight interview, it was the first instance of a fight ending by way of a twister in the history of the UFC.
The Korean said he learned the move by watching Eddie Bravo videos and vowed to use it to end a fight one day.
Mission accomplished.
