If the first two fights on the main card of UFC Fight Night 24: "Nogueira vs. Davis" weren't enough to get your pulse up, the co-main event promised to deliver the excitement fight fans so often crave.
Anthony Johnson and Dan Hardy vowed to give us a bout worthy of headlining the card, as they were both looking to prove they're still worthy of top billing coming off losses to Carlos Condit and Josh Koscheck, respectively.
They also assured everyone this fight wouldn't make its way to the mat. Both turned out to be empty promises, as Johnson repeatedly took Hardy down en route to a unanimous decision win while the crowd let both men know, they were none too pleased about it.
That said, it was a winning strategy for "Rumble," who had been out of action for nearly a year and a half and perhaps wanted to play it safe in his first trip back to the Octagon.
A win is a win is a win, right?
The fight started out rather promising, with Johnson landing a high kick that put Hardy on his ass. "The Outlaw" recovered quickly but ended up getting driven to the mat and held there for the remainder of the round.
Not much changed in the second, with Hardy looking for the big shot and the monster Johnson driving through for another takedown. He rode that one to the end of the frame, steadily scoring points along the way.
Based on the first two, guess what happened in the final round?
Yes, Johnson once again utilized his superior wrestling to take the Brit down repeatedly and put him through the meat grinder, as Jon Fitch would say.
Did he win fans with this performance? Not likely but he did do something he hadn't done since Oct., 2009 -- win a fight.
This also marks the third loss in a row for Hardy, who fought for the welterweight crown just two bouts ago. What happens now?
