UFN 23 – Charlie Brenneman grinds out a hard fought unanimous decision win over Amilcar Alves

UFC welterweight prospect, Charlie Brenneman notched up another tick in the win column tonight on the UFC Fight Night 23 card in Fort Hood, Texas, defeating tricky Brazilian, Amilcar Alves via unanimous decision on the night.
Big kick fired by Alves, Brenneman absorbs it and shoots in for the takedown. Brenneman moves to the side but Alves soon has a kimura to defend against any further movement. Brenneman with punches to the body as Alves gets to his knees. Brenneman looks to take the back but Alves gets back to his feet in the scramble. Brenneman with a big slam and Alves recovers guard. Brenneman looks to advance his position but he can’t so throws a series of short punches from above. Brenneman passes and winds up in full mount. Alves hip escapes back to half-guard where he eats more punches. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Brenneman.
Alves missed a low kick early before Brenneman rushes in and both men end up on the mat. Both men pop back up but Brenneman has underhooks and looks to trip Alves to the ground. The action stalls and the referee separates. Alves with a high kick which is blocked. Brenneman looks to shoot but Alves avoids but winds up being pushed to the ground. Brenneman peppers him with punches from above before moving to side control. Knees to the body from Brenneman before moving to the mount again. He looks for a head and arm triangle choke but he doesn’t have it and lets fly with punches to end the round. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Brenneman.
Alves takes the center again and misses with a low kick. He lands a nice Superman punch and attempts a second but is easily taken down this time. Both men return to the feet and in the clinch Brenneman gets the takedown again. A barrage of punches this time from Brenneman sees him momentarily secure the mount position. Alves lands a series of elbows to the head. Brenneman continues to grind away from the top and eventually secures the mount again. Alves looks to spin out and gives up his back in the closing seconds. MMABay scores the round 10-9 Brenneman. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 in favour of Brenneman.
