Speaking via The Garv.com, Shields said:
“I was raised a vegetarian, so I’ve never really eaten meat. I tried it, but I didn’t care for it. A lot of people think you can’t be strong without meat, but I’m proof they’re wrong. I feel [not eating meat] is an advantage, so that’s not something I have to think about. I think I train better—my body feels like its efficient. I’ve had a number of training partners who have become vegetarian.”
When asked for a prediction on his upcoming UFC 129 showdown with Georges St. Pierre on April 30th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Shields said:“I think it’ll be a tough fight, but I’ll end it with submission.”
Shields is coming off a less than impressive performance against Martin Kampmann on his octagon debut, a fight he won via split decision on the night. It was his first cut to 170 pounds in some time after winning the Strikeforce middleweight crown.
