UFC 129 – Jake Shields talks about his vegetarian diet before predicting he’ll submit St. Pierre

UFC welterweight number one contender, Jake Shields has been speaking about the effects on his lifestyle the vegetarian diet he’s on has as he heads into the biggest fight of his career in two and a half months time, before predicting he’ll end that fight with a submission.
Speaking via The Garv.com, Shields said:
“I was raised a vegetarian, so I’ve never really eaten meat. I tried it, but I didn’t care for it. A lot of people think you can’t be strong without meat, but I’m proof they’re wrong. I feel [not eating meat] is an advantage, so that’s not something I have to think about. I think I train better—my body feels like its efficient. I’ve had a number of training partners who have become vegetarian.”
When asked for a prediction on his upcoming UFC 129 showdown with Georges St. Pierre on April 30th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Shields said:
“I think it’ll be a tough fight, but I’ll end it with submission.”
Shields is coming off a less than impressive performance against Martin Kampmann on his octagon debut, a fight he won via split decision on the night. It was his first cut to 170 pounds in some time after winning the Strikeforce middleweight crown.
