Strikeforce and DREAM set to team up to hold a lightweight grand prix starting in May

California based MMA promotion, Strikeforce are seemingly not content with holding one grand prix in 2011 after it was revealed they intend on teaming up with Japanese promotion, DREAM for a lightweight grand prix set to take place in Japan.
Speaking via ESPN.com, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said:
“We’re committed to keeping our fighters active, but if we can help Dream and have our fighters go over there and participate in their tournament, why not? If things go the way they should, I feel confident we’ll send a bunch of guys over.”
It was revealed today that Strikeforce lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez will compete on April 9th in the United States against a yet to be determined opponent and would likely be ruled out of competing in the eight-man tournament. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as we get it.
