IS FRANKIE EDGAR A CHAMPION THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED?
Champions of yesterday, such as Royce Gracie or Mark Coleman, are remembered for their abilities to finish fights in an exciting and captivating fashion. Fans forget the 90-minute battle between Gracie and Kazushi Sakuraba. Why? The lack of an exciting and memorable finish. In those days, fans wanted to see a decisive finish, not a white towel thrown to the mat. Today's fan is no different than yesterday's. Edgar has now fought 15 rounds in his past three fights without a finish or anything close. True MMA aficionados want to see, and will remember, a great finish over a decision any day. A fighter, more importantly a champion, must finish a fight and not leave it in the hands of the judges to decide the victor. A finish leaves no question in the fans mind that the fighter has undoubtedly won the fight and is the true "champion."
