Alistair Overeem says MMA is doing well as a combat sport but boxing is still number one

Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem seems to be manoeuvring himself for a switch over to the boxing world in the not so distant future after playing down the recent growth of mixed martial arts, explaining MMA is doing well but boxing is still number one.
Speaking via The Fight Show, Overeem said:
“If I fight Klitschko now, I mean this guy, he is not for nothing the champion of how many leagues, like five? The thing is, it’s an interesting thought, it’s an interesting idea. Let’s cut to the chase, there’s a lot of money to be made in boxing. It is the most popular combat sport out there. I mean, MMA is doing really well and it might overtake boxing but boxing is still the number one. If you look at the revenues made by boxing it is a big difference, a big difference.”
Overeem has recently been removed from the Strikeforce heavyweight grand-prix and is rumoured to have just one fight left on his contract with the California based promotion. With his current deal open ended which enables him to fight for other MMA promotions as well as in the K-1 or boxing ring, expect to see “The Reem” pop up sometime in the near future.
