Officials today announced that verbal agreements are in place for the fight.
The bout likely will be part of the preliminary card of UFC 134, which takes place Aug. 27 at HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro. The pay-per-view headliner pits middleweight champion Anderson Silva against Yushin Okami.
The event is the UFC's first in Brazil since 1998.
Loveland, an IFL and SportFight veteran, signed with the UFC in late 2010 as a late replacement for Leonard Garcia at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. There, he scored a unanimous-decision win over featherweight Tyler Toner, which pushed his win streak to seven fights. However, at UFC 128 in March, Loveland dropped to bantamweight and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Joseph Benavidez.
The American now meets Canadian Jabouin, a WEC vet who made his UFC debut back in April. Fighting in his home country at the record-breaking UFC 129 event in Toronto, he suffered a submission loss (via flying triangle choke) to Pablo Garza. The native Haitian is now 1-3 over his past four fights, which included a 1-2 run in the WEC.
The latest UFC 134 card now includes:
- Champ Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami (for middleweight title)
- Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Brendan Schaub
- Edson Barboza vs. Ross Pearson
- Luiz Cane vs. Stanislav Nedkov
- Spencer Fisher vs. Thiago Tavares
- David Mitchell vs. Paulo Thiago
- Erick Silva vs. Mike Swick
- Yves Jabouin vs. Ian Loveland
- Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira vs. Rousimar Palhares*
