The Ultimate Fighter Gets A Little “Mayhem” To Go With It’s Chaos

It was announced last week that Jason “Mayhem” Miller will be coaching opposite Michael “The Count” Bisping on The Ultimate Fighter’s season 14. The fighters will be in the bantamweight and featherweight Divisions, but the trash talk will probably rival that of the heaviest trash talkers on the planet. There has been criticism from all sides against the picks, but, after the world’s best insult comic (Chael Sonnen) was forced out of coaching due to suspension, Miller was elected to replace him. Even Sonnen himself is weighing in on the decision.
According to Sonnen, a couple on the TV series “The Bachelor” will make it work better than Miller will fit as a coach on TUF 14. Adding, “Ten bucks says that he brings Bisping a rose on the season finale.”
I, for one, have always thought Miller was entertaining, and remember the Strikeforce brawl? Yeah, that was entertaining as hell. It may have brought a lot of negative attention to the sport of MMA, but it brought a lot of attention to Strikeforce too. Miller may not have Sonnen’s talents in the cage, but he has a lot of his talents on the stage (yeah, that rhymes, and I’m copyrighting that phrase). Also, I feel like the “bad boy” images of these two fighters are going to make for one hell of a fight with lots of hype.
Miller just signed with the UFC less than a month ago, and already he is on one of the top bills that the promotion has. As Roy “Big Country” Nelson once told me, “Being on The Ultimate Fighter is equivalent to being on 5 or 6 main-card pay-per-view events (as far as exposure for a fighter).”
That right there is why so many guys who may not get that “big draw” yet are clamoring for this opportunity. I can understand Sonnen’s anger towards the California State Athletic Commission, but I think his comments about Miller recently are a little unfounded.
This isn’t to say that I don’t just generally like to hear ANYTHING Sonnen has to say. It’s comedy gold. However, if anything, he should be on Miller’s side. He should pop in for a special guest coaching spot and talk even more trash to Bisping’s face. Sonnen has made it clear that he does not much like “The Count.”
Miller has been on MTV’s “Bully Beatdown” since its inception in 2009 (still listed as a “running show”), and he has gained some notoriety in mainstream culture from the absurdity of the show’s premise. If you haven’t heard, a professional mixed-martial artist takes on a neighborhood bully in a cage fight to get the bully to realize the error of their ways. It’s hilarious.
Bisping, on the other hand, has been a fighter on TUF (Season 3), and he has coached against Dan Henderson (Season 9) already. He is familiar with the what-to-dos on the show, but he never had anybody “splashing in his pool” on the show. That is to say, no one ever really got in his face or annoyed him like Miller can. The show may turn into more quality pranks than anything, but I guarantee the fight at the end of the show will be worth the watch, and the small fries of the bantamweight and featherweight Divisions are going to be electrifying in the Octagon.
