"I'm kind of leaning toward dos Santos just because he's a better boxer than Carwin. I think he's more technical, a lot faster and his movement's a lot better. But with Carwin, he hits so hard that if he connects with a clean punch I can see him winning the fight that way. If he does go out there and try to [get a takedown], that wouldn't surprise me either. That would be his best bet, just to try to keep that close distance on [dos Santos] because [Carwin] generates so much power from a close distance, just like we saw with him and Frank Mir [at UFC 111]. Those two guys are good stand-up guys. They mainly throw a lot of punches, rarely any kicks. They both have a lot of power, so I think the game plan would be kind of the same for both."
-- No one is as interested in tonight's (June 11, 2011) UFC 131 main event match-up, pitting Shane Carwin vs. Junior dos Santos, than Cain Velasquez. The UFC heavyweight champion will meet the winner sometime later this year, likely in October or November, with the division title on the line. Old "Brown Pride" will be at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to scout his two potential opponents so he can brush up on their skills. Considering neither Carwin nor dos Santos has fought for almost an entire calendar year, he's won't be the only one. So who does Velasquez think he'll make his first title defense against? He tells ESPN he's leaning towards "Cigano" but knows "The Engineer" could just as easily bring home the "W" if he lands with one of those lunch boxes he calls fists. Nostradumbass thinks Carwin takes it, yours truly believes dos Santos will and Cain seems to agree with me, although he's straddling the fence more than anything.
