UFC 131 results: Donald Cerrone decisions Vagner Rocha
The UFC 131: "Dos Santos vs. Carwin" pay-per-view broadcast opened with a lightweight scrap featuring two hungry lions looking to make a name for themselves.
It was the classic striker (Donald Cerrone) vs. grappler (Vagner Rocha) match-up.
The former did his thing while the latter struggled just to stand. Of course, that's because young Donald was plastering Rocha with leg kicks, steadily chopping him down throughout the fight.
You wouldn't think to associate a "Cowboy" with sweet technique and fresh tactics, but you'd be wrong, as Cerrone used an effective game plan to earn himself the unanimous decision.
Team Greg Jackson strikes again.
It should be noted that Rocha was a late replacement for Mac Danzig, who bowed out of this fight due to a chest injury.
That's certainly no excuse, but it does help explain a decidedly uninspired performance.
That said, Rocha often looked like nothing more than a lamb led to the slaughter. He was signed, with a career record of 6-1, specifically for this fight, against a former WEC champion.
