Galesic Joins Bellator’s Season 5 Middleweight Draw

Seven slots are now full for the Bellator Fighting Championships Season 5 middleweight tournament, as the promotion on Friday announced that Zelg Galesic had officially thrown his hat into the circular cage.

Galesic (Pictured; file photo) joins Bryan Baker, Vitor Vianna, Alexander Shlemenko, Jared Hess, Sam Alvey and Brian Rogers in the tournament field. Season 5 is expected to begin in September and will also feature tournaments in the heavyweight, welterweight and bantamweight divisions. As is custom, the bracket winners will receive $100,000 in total pay, along with title shots at their respective divisional champions.

“I think I match up well with the fighters in this tournament,” Galesic said in a release. “And [middleweight champion] Hector Lombard is a great fighter. He’s always very exciting to watch. I hope I will get a chance to touch gloves with him one day.”

Galesic, 32, is a Croatian striker with a wealth of international experience. Fighting the first half of his career in England, Galesic put together a 4-0 record in the defunct Cage Rage organization before traveling east to compete primarily in Japan. A four-time Dream veteran, Galesic has lost two of his last three fights, falling by submission to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Kazushi Sakuraba in 2008 and 2009, respectively. After taking more than a year away from competition, Galesic returned to action in March, knocking out Lee Chadwick in the first round.
