Cain Velasquez: Junior dos Santos vs Shane Carwin at UFC 131 was right decision

Brock Lesnar's second battle with diverticulitis forced him out of his scheduled match-up against Junior dos Santos at UFC 131 on June 11 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
General sentiment is that it's a highly unfortunate turn of events -- and one that almost completely kills The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13, which was already on life support -- but the situation is salvageable due to so few giving Brock a chance against dos Santos anyway.
Enter Shane Carwin.
Although at the expense of Lesnar, the stars aligned perfectly for a highly intriguing heavyweight throwdown featuring two of the divisions elite strikers.
Sure, "The Engineer" is coming off a near year-long layoff but so is "Cigano."
The winner will face Cain Velasquez later this year for the 265-pound title and as he tells MMAFighting.com, the UFC made the right decision having Carwin step in for Lesnar.

"I think (they made the right call), yeah. He was next in line, for sure. He's a tough guy. I think it was a good call. Before (with Lesnar-dos Santos), it was wrestler vs. striker. Now it's striker vs. striker - but they're different. I think dos Santos is more technical and hits hard, but Carwin is a really hard puncher. You can't pound him out. So it's two hard hitters."

Carwin's last fight was back in July 2010 against Lesnar, one he lost in spectacular fashion after dominating the big man for the entire first round before blowing his wad and succumbing to a second-round triangle choke.
The behemoth brawler, 36, has since dropped some excess weight and has been telling anyone who will listen about his improved cardiovascular conditioning, which was previously the only knock against him.
He likely won't have to worry about anything other than standing and banging with dos Santos, though. Both men have fought 13 times (boasting 12-1 career records) and have a combined 15 knockouts between them.
