The opening fight of the Strikeforce: "Diaz vs. Daley" event featured two fancy lightweights in Shinya Aoki and Lyle Beerbohm.
The gameplan coming in for the Japanese jiu-jitsu specialist was clear: take his opponent down and choke him out.
That's exactly what he did.
Aoki earned himself a trip takedown and before long had Beerbohm's back and forced a tapout via neck crank. This marked submission number 17 in the storied career of "The Tobikan Judan."
As usual, Aoki was emotional in the post-fight, shedding a few tears and holding up a banner for his homeland of Japan.
He wanted to speak, asking whomever he could for a microphone but was denied. Instead, the telecast showed Dana White, Lorenzo Fertittia, Dominick Cruz and Jake Shields in succession.
All were booed -- some boisterously.
