UCMMA Presents First SAFE MMA Card In Landmark UK Event - 2ND FEBRUARY 2013

UK medical initiative, Safe MMA, goes live this Saturday 2nd February at London’s Troxy (UK) when UCMMA 32 is set to present the first ever Safe MMA fight card. The night bears host to a mixture of professional MMA and K1 bouts, of which all the MMA fighters on the card will be medically approved by Safe MMA.

Safe MMA is proud to announce that, as of today, every MMA fighter on the UCMMA 32 fight card is now registered; with the final couple of medicals and blood tests (including that of a late replacement fighter) being carried out tomorrow morning by Dr Jack Kreindler. These will be reviewed within the day, in time for Saturday’s show.

Medical approval to fight by Safe MMA is based on results from blood tests for HIV, Hep B and Hep C; and on passing a standardised GP medical test. Fighters will undergo pre- and post-fight medicals on the night, provided by the promotion. All test results will be sent to Safe MMA at 76 Harley Street to be uploaded to a confidential, centralised database. Safe MMA fighters and promotions are committed to observe medically advised suspensions. For more about Safe MMA, go to http://www.safemma.com

UCMMA 32 is a landmark event for Mixed Martial Arts in the UK, as the agreement between leading promotions, UCMMA, BAMMA and Cage Warriors, to commit to a founding medical standard comes to fruition: Saturday night sees the first Safe MMA fighters stepping into the cage for the first ever medically regulated night of MMA in the UK. Please see the Safe MMA fight card below for names of participating fighters.

Dr Jack Kreindler of 76 Harley Street said:
“The last few weeks have seen a phenomenal effort on behalf of all involved: Dave and the fighters have been extraordinary and it’s been fantastic to see where some people may have been cynical at first, people coming round to seeing this as a positive step. There’s been a huge amount of work to bring the first Safe MMA card to realisation and to get the processes set up and in place. Dave O’Donnell has been inspirational in his commitment and has genuinely put his money where his mouth is in helping out some of the fighters who were struggling, at personal cost. I’d also like to thank our clinical admin staff at 76 Harley Street, Alexis Coward and Nina Sorensen, for working overtime over the last two weeks to make sure all the fighters were registered in time for Saturday’s event, and without whom this wouldn’t have been possible. Thanks to everyone’s work and efforts, we’re on track for a 100% Safe MMA approved MMA card with no exceptions and it is an achievement that Dave and his fighters can be proud of.” UCMMA Promoter,

Dave O’Donnell, said:
“Safe MMA has been a journey; a long hard road that has not been easy but a huge move in the right direction. Fighters, trainers, gyms and Harley Street have pulled out all the stops to make this work. On February 2nd, UCMMA 32 marks Safe MMA’s first big step. I’m proud to be part of MMA’s struggle to hit mainstream. I’ve been there at the start and I’ll be there at the finish. TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK, DON’T LOOK BACK MOVE FORWARD”. Safe MMA’s

Rosi Sexton said:
"This is a landmark event for SAFE MMA, and a huge positive step forwards for our sport in this country. Credit should go to the fighters and the promoters who have supported SAFE MMA so far, and to all those who have worked so hard to make this happen.”
