MMA’s Capoeira Knockout Artist Marcus Aurelio signs with Bellator Fighting Championships

Bellator Fighting Championships continues to add to their ever expanding roster with the signing of dynamic welterweight Marcus Aurelio. Currently riding an impressive six fight win streak, “Lelo” becomes the newest addition to a loaded division that includes some of the best welterweights in the sport including Bellator Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren, Bellator Season 5 Tournament Champion Douglas Lima, as well as Bellator Season 6 Welterweight Tournament Finalists Karl Amoussou and Bryan Baker, plus welterweight finisher Ben “Killa B” Saunders.

“Marcus is an absolute explosive anomaly in our sport,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “If you have never seen him fight, you are missing something totally unique and special.  Marcus brings a completely unique style and confidence to the cage that I’ve never seen before.  It will be great to see how his explosive Capoeira translates in the Bellator cage.”
“I’m really excited to have signed with Bellator,” Aurelio said. “I’m happy that they see my potential. I know they have some of the best fighters in the world and I’m ready to prove my worth against top tier competition. This is a huge accomplishment for me and everyone who has helped me get to where I am.”
After beginning his professional career in 2005, “Lelo” has compiled an impressive 6-1 record, including five highlight-reel knockouts. Marcus, who is a practitioner of the Brazilian martial art Capoeira, is well known for using his unpredictable and violent art to confuse and devastate opponents that choose to step in the cage with him, (Watch Here: http://bit.ly/MKLgic).

“I feel that my style of fighting is very dynamic and explosive,” said Aurelio. “I certainly don’t enter the cage to win on points. It’s instinct for me, I’m always looking to finish my opponent. I think it’s exciting for the fans.”
Aurelio won’t have to wait too long to get his first taste of action inside the Bellator cage. He is scheduled to make his promotional debut at Bellator 73 on August 24.

“Of course my ultimate goal in Bellator is to become a champion, but I’m not looking past my next opponent,” Aurelio added. “I’m thrilled to showcase what I’m capable of in August for Bellator.”

Fedor on future fight with Brock Lesnar: 'Anything is possible'

The man who many once considered to be one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time cited family as the main reason for wanting to move on:
"I've got daughters, and they're growing up without me. This is very, very difficult for me. Family is always first place for me, so this is the time."
Fedor was asked if the constant questions about his retirement had any bearing on his decision. Not according to ex-PRIDE champion. According to Fedor, it was just time:
No, I'm not tired of the questions. There are actually going to be more of the questions. People will accept my decision. They gotta understand that it's my decision and I've got to go.You shouldn't be disappointed that I'm leaving. Life is going on. I want to thank everyone who has supported me. Eventually the time to go was coming. My time has come. We'll try to make some new MMA stars.

Urijah Faber: 'I will be Renan Barao's toughest test"

"I'm excited for it. I really feel like it's a more dangerous fight. If you look at him versus Dominick, it's not as tricky, it's more straightforward. He has a lot of heavy artillery in his offense. He's really polished on the ground, a black belt who has a lot of finishes. But it's not gonna be as tricky as Cruz. With Cruz, you have to find him, he's running around and trying to outpoint you. Barao and I are gonna go out there and beat each other up, and I'm gonna get the win."

Debut Scotland show announced for 2012

CAGE WARRIORS CEO Graham Boylan has announced that the organisation will stage a show in Scotland for the first time before the end of 2012.

Boylan has also confirmed that CWFC will be heading back to Ireland this year following the enormous success of Cage Warriors 47 in Dublin earlier this month.

“As I said recently, we were blown away by the show in Dublin so we’ll definitely be going back there before the year is out,” said Boylan.

“But we’re also very excited to be bringing Cage Warriors to Scotland for the first time. I’ve been inundated with requests from fans in Scotland to take Cage Warriors up there so we’ll be giving the people what they want.

“Cage Warriors has been a showcase for the best talent in Scotland for a long time. Already this year we’ve featured the likes of Graham Turner, Stevie Ray and Allan Love.

“The fans up there will be given the chance to see the best guys Scotland has to offer in action, as well as some top international talent as well. We’ll give them a show to remember.”

Boylan will travel to both Ireland and Scotland in the coming weeks to finalise details of both events and official announcements will be made in due course. In the meantime, no further information is available.

Keep track of Cage Warriors on Facebook and Twitter for the latest news and updates and click HERE to view the current Cage Warriors schedule of events.

UFC 148 video: 'Fight Camp Insider' featuring Matt Serra and Chael Sonnen

A lot of fans want to see Tito Ortiz vs Vladimir Matyushenko 2

"I still have four fights on my contract, but I’m going to take it one by one. Obviously I’m not getting any younger, but I don’t want to finish my career on the loss I had in December. Hopefully I’ll win the next one and we’ll see from there. Tito Ortiz would be good. He’s at that point in his career and I think it would be a good fight. I think a lot of fans would want to see that fight, so that would be good, but again, I don’t really want to pick and choose. I put it in the hands of the UFC ... I think it’s still a possibility. In our case, it’s not just the will to fight but being able to as far as if he’s healthy, and if the timing is good, I think it’s very possible. You never know, things may change. I wouldn’t say that’s the beauty of MMA but it’s definitely the truth."

Fedor Emelianenko announces retirement

Russian mixed martial arts legend Fedor Emelianenko has announced his retirement after knocking out Brazilian veteran Pedro Rizzo.

It took Emelianenko just 44 seconds to knock out Brazilian veteran Pedro Rizzo on Thursday, putting him on the ground with a serious of punches and then finishing with more strikes to the head.

"I think it is time I quit," Emelianenko said.

"My family influenced my decision. My daughters are growing without me, that's why it's time to leave."

"I made a final decision. This was my last fight. I'm leaving the sport for the sake of his family, for the sake of children. At this point I want to devote more time to his daughters", - the words of a correspondent Emelianenko "Chempionat.com" Constantine Ustyantsev.

Fedor also said that no money will be able to influence his decision, but did not deny the fact that things can change, and he will return to the ring.

"All of God's will. I made a decision, but it is unknown how the Lord God to dispose of the further fate" - said Fedor

CWFC 48: Kris Edwards v Brian Hyslop

KRIS EDWARDS will make his flyweight debut at Cage Warriors 48 in London next month.

Brian Hyslop (5-1-0) will provide the opposition for Edwards (7-3-0) in the Welshman’s first bout since dropping to 125lbs, which will take place at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town on Saturday, July 21.

22-year-old Edwards (pictured), ranked as one of Europe’s top ten bantamweights, signed an exclusive contract with Cage Warriors last year.

His stint with the organisation began in impressive fashion in April when he secured a unanimous decision victory over Janne Elonen-Kulmala at CWFC Fight Night 5 in Amman, Jordan.

However, Edwards will now drop down from bantamweight and his first challenge in the flyweight division will be a difficult one.

Hyslop, who’ll be fighting for Cage Warriors for the first time, is ranked as Europe’s number six flyweight and his only professional defeat to date came at the hands of Mark Platts earlier this year.

Jose Aldo targeting October return

According to Andre Pederneiras, Aldo's manager and trainer at Nova Uniao in Brazil, the UFC featherweight champion is hoping to return to action in October following a left leg injury. Pederneiras recently told MMAFighting.com that Aldo will not require surgery on the left leg he injured in training, which forced him to pull out of his UFC 149 title fight against Erik Koch two weeks ago.

Aldo is currently undergoing physical therapy in Brazil and will meet with a doctor next week to reevaluate the leg.

Report: Liddell says Shogun is not among the great fighters

Chuck Liddell is in Belo Horizonte, Brazil for UFC 147. The visit made Liddell recall a fight with a Brazilian star of the sport, when he faced former PRIDE and UFC champion Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua,.
The curious thing is that, despite losing by knockout in the first round, Liddell does not consider the Brazilian to be among the best fighters in MMA today.
"Shogun is not among the great fighters, and never will be," said 'The Iceman'. "He needs much more to reach the level of Anderson Silva, for example."

Bisping hoping next fight is for title

Bisping recently appeared on HD Net's "Inside MMA" to address the injury, the surgery and the timetable for his return to the Octagon. According to "The Count," he'd like to be back in action sooner rather than later:
"Yeah, left knee. Slightly torn meniscus. I had some loose bodies -- two rather large pieces of cartilage floating around inside. I had what they call, 'fraying of the knee' inside. It's general wear and tear. So they went in, repaired the meniscus, removed the loose bodies and cleaned up the knee, somewhat. That was last Wednesday. I'm still in a lot of pain, limping around a lot. But I'm hoping, within a few weeks, I'll be back in the gym, so I can fight ASAP."

Bellator signs undefeated Russian 'Tiger' Alexander Sarnavskiy

Photo
Bellator's Season Seven Lightweight Tournament just got its #1 seed, as Bellator Fighting Championships has signed undefeated lightweight Alexander "Tiger" Sarnavskiy. Only 23, "Tiger" brings a spotless 20-0 record into Bellator, including 17 finishes.
Training under Bellator Middleweight World Title Challenger Alexander "Storm" Shlemenko, Sarnavskiy is looking to continue the tradition of Russian excellence inside the Bellator cage.
"Alexander Shlemenko has put a high standard of Russian dominance in Bellator by winning two middleweight tournaments," Sarnavskiy said. "Now my teammate Andrey Koreshkov fights for Bellator as well and he recently won two fights by spectacular KO's. Vitaly Minakov also just signed with Bellator, and I expect him to become Bellator's next Heavyweight Champion. I want to follow in the footsteps of those men, and make Bellator proud."

Recently ranked as the world's #1 prospect at 155 pounds Sarnavskiy has finished nine of his last 10 opponents, and has yet to face a battle he couldn't handle. Armed with a polished ground game and training under one of the best technical strikers in the sport, Sarnavskiy is prepared for the rigors he'll soon face by entering the next Bellator Lightweight Tournament.

"The Bellator Tournament will be a difficult test for me," Sarnavskiy said. "I will train and prepare myself the best I can. I have a huge responsibility to my coach, my manager, my fans and my country. I won't disappoint them and I want to show them a spectacular performance."
"Russia's produced some incredible athletes that have had tremendous success in our sport, and having watched Tiger fight for the last few years, I expect great things from him," said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. "He is an incredibly explosive and dynamic Mixed Martial Artist who should be a force here at Bellator."
