SHEILA GAFF (pictured) has withdrawn from her scheduled meeting with Rosi Sexton at Cage Warriors 49.
The pair were due to clash for the vacant CWFC women’s flyweight title at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday, October 27.
However, the fight has now been removed from the card after Cage Warriors Fighting Championship officials were informed by Gaff’s representatives this morning that the 22-year-old German fighter has been ill.
“Sheila has been feeling very unwell and has not received clearance to fight after seeking medical advice,” said Gaff’s manager Tim Leidecker.
“She would like to apologise to Cage Warriors, Rosi Sexton and the fans for letting everyone down. Sheila is heartbroken having worked hard and waited so long for this chance.”
Gaff (10-4-1) and Sexton (13-2-0), who currently occupy the top two places in the women’s world flyweight rankings, were both victorious in their respective tournament semi-final bouts earlier this year to set up their title showdown.
Gaff had a first-round KO victory over Jennifer Maia at CWFC Fight Night 4 in Dubai back in March, while Sexton defeated Aisling Daly by unanimous decision at June’s Cage Warriors 47 in Dublin.
Both fighters had been undergoing a drug-screening procedure conducted by the Volunteer Anti-Doping Association (VADA) in the build-up to next weekend’s scheduled fight.
The flyweight clash of Kris Edwards (8-3-0) and Mark Platts (10-8-0) has now been promoted from the prelims to the main card for Cage Warriors 49.
