Demian Maia won his first five fights in the UFC by submission, four of them so spectacular they earned submission of the night. Since then he has gone 4-4, including seven fights that went to decision, capped by an uninspired win over Chris Weidman at UFC on Fox 2 earlier this year.
Maia's move to Welterweight is doubtless spurred because a title path to the 185 Middleweight division is unlikely, particularly after a loss to a taunting Anderson Silva in 2010.
He said in a recent interview that he had not made a test cut to 170 yet.
