CWFC 47: McGregor v Hill & Pendred v Bielkheden

A new CWFC featherweight champion will be crowned on June 2 when Conor McGregor fights for the title in his hometown of Dublin against Dave Hill at Cage Warriors 47.

The event, which takes place at The Helix on the northside of the Irish capital, will also feature McGregor’s fellow Dubliner and SBG team-mate Cathal Pendred, who’ll face UFC veteran David Bielkheden.

Following his impressive first round TKO win over Steve O’Keeffe at CWFC 45 in London last month, McGregor called on Cage Warriors officials to grant him a shot at the belt, which was recently vacated by Danny Batten.

McGregor (10-2-0) has now got his wish and will fight for the title in front of a raucous home crowd at what’s guaranteed to be a sold-out show. The 23-year-old has secured all but one of his 10 victories in the first round and his two defeats have come against high-level opposition in Joseph Duffy and Artemij Sitenkov.

Hill, who also has a record of 10-2-0, is one of the UK’s top featherweights and has previously defeated CWFC veterans such as Ashleigh Grimshaw and Dan Hope. Hill, a 25-year-old from Coventry, has suffered losses to McGregor’s SBG team-mate Artem Lobov and top Finnish fighter Tom Niinimaki.

Cathal Pendred will also have home backing for his welterweight clash with David Bielkheden, which will undoubtedly be the biggest test of Pendred’s career to date.

The 25-year-old Dublin native (9-2-0) will be fighting for the first time since his draw against Danny Mitchell at CWFC Fight Night 2 in Jordan last September.

Bielkheden (17-10-0), a 32-year-old Swede, is a ten-year veteran of the sport and fought three times in the UFC between March 2008 and April 2009, a spell during which he defeated Jess Liaudin but suffered losses to Diego Sanchez and Mark Bocek.

“We’ve already staged so many big shows this year and there are plenty more to come, but I can promise you that Cage Warriors 47 will be one of our biggest and best yet,” said CWFC director Graham Boylan.

“We’ll be adding several more exciting bouts to this card over the coming weeks, but these two fights will be absolute crackers. There’s no doubt about that.

“Conor and Cathal are two of Ireland’s top talents so to have them both fighting in their own backyard with so much at stake is something to really look forward to.

“The demand for tickets for this will subsequently be huge so the atmosphere at The Helix should be electric, but both Conor and Cathal will be facing extremely tough opposition in Dave Hill and David Bielkheden. This has all the makings of another top show.”

Cage Warriors has put together another stacked card full of top talent for CWFC 47 so keep track of us on Twitter and Facebook for more news and fight announcements over the coming weeks.
