White: We screwed up. All main events 5 rounds going forward
UFC on Fuel TV event featured Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger battling to a decision. The bout saw Ellenberger clearly win the first two rounds, but Sanchez come on strong in the third, taking the round, but not enough to force a draw, losing a unanimous decision.
Fans and media immediately began to speculate as the result should the bout continued for two more rounds. In 2011, the UFC with the help of the NSAC, approved five round matches for non-title bouts that served as main events. The UFC has not been consistent in using the five round bouts, and in this case, the bout between Sanchez and Ellenberger was always scheduled for three rounds.
At tonight's post fight press conference, UFC President Dana White addressed the issue, telling the media 'we screwed up' and he stated that all main events going forward would be scheduled for five rounds.
