Isaksson, Grimaud Clash for CWFC Welterweight Strap on Sept. 8

Isaksson, Grimaud Clash for CWFC Welterweight Strap on Sept. 8

A welterweight title showdown is in the works for Cage Warriors Fighting Championship’s second “Fight Night” event, as Arni Isaksson will square off with Gael Grimaud for the vacant CWFC 170-pound strap.

Officials from the English promotion recently added the matchup to the company’s Sept. 8 card, revealing that former welterweight ace Pascal Krauss has been stripped of his belt due to his inability to defend the title. The unbeaten Krauss is currently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and is slated to face John Hathaway at UFC 138 on Nov. 5.

CWFC Fight Night 2 will emanate from the Al-Hussein Youth City Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan, and will also feature a women’s 125-pound title clash between Sheila Gaff and Angela Hayes. Additionally, Conor McGregor will lock horns with Nicklas Backstrom in a featherweight affair.

Known as “The Ice Viking,” Isaksson (Pictured) rides a three-fight winning streak into his showdown with Grimaud. The SBG Ireland representative owns over half of his career wins by submission and has never been knocked out as a pro. Most recently, he stopped Kevin Reed with an arm-triangle choke at CWFC 40 in February.

Grimaud, 31, has won his last four contests. Though he has competed less than three years as a pro, the Frenchman already has 18 pro bouts to his credit, finishing nine of his conquered foes by submission. The Haute Tension product has only been knocked out once since beginning his career in 2008, and has never fallen by submission.
