Dana White explains Forrest Griffin’s below par performance was due to his situation back home

UFC President, Dana White has leapt to the defence of former light heavyweight champion, Forrest Griffin following his first round TKO loss at the hands of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua last night at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, explaining the Las Vegas native has had a lot on his mind these past few days including his wife going into labour.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Dana said:
“His wife is literally getting ready to deliver their baby in Las Vegas right now. We’re going to try and get him home as fast as we can. I have so much respect for him for coming in and taking this fight, being in this situation. He knew he was going to be in this situation. Like he said, she was supposed to be nine days later. He was just texting with her before we came in here and she thinks she’s ready to go. I’m leaving tonight, he’s flying home with me tonight.”
Griffin was also in attendance and attempted to explain what had gone wrong for him during the fight.
“The game plan was to get off after he missed, and he missed a couple times and I let him off the hook. It’s just setting in. I think that’s a fight where I definitely could have done a lot better. It sucks when you do poorly at your job. If I had known it was going to work out like this, I would not have taken the fight.”
Griffin must now go back to the drawing board as he continues to blow hot and cold in the light heavyweight division. Well he ever live up to the potential he showed when he captured the title just three years ago only to lose it in his very next fight?
