It's the rematch you've all been waiting for.
Both Kendall Grove and Joe Riggs have reportedly signed contracts with the relaunching ProElite promotion and are being booked to square off at the planned Aug. 27 show in Hawaii.
This according to T. Jay Thompson, who announced the news on the MMA Hour.
It makes sense to sign Grove to a contract so as to capitalize on the notoriety he garnered working for the world's largest fight promotion for the past five years after winning The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3.
And while it turned out he was more mediocre than mega-star (12-9 record overall and 7-6 in UFC), he's still got a name that plenty of fight fans recognize.
The same goes for Riggs, although to a much lesser extent.
Grove was given every chance in the world to succeed during his time with UFC; however, he could never quite put it together. His longest win streak with the promotion was three.
He was unceremoniously dumped when he lost three of his last four bouts.
As for Riggs, his being a longtime veteran with a marketable name is likely the biggest reason he's being given this shot. He's lost his last two fights, both by technical knockout.
These two first met back in 2004 at Rumble on the Rock 5 in Hawaii, a bout Riggs won by knockout in the very first round in his middleweight debut.
Can he do it again? Stay tuned.
ProElite makes its return on Aug. 27 in Hawaii with a show headlined by "The Pitbull" Andrei Arlovski. The promotion has also signed mega-prospect amateur wrestling champion Mark Ellis, as well as Reagan Penn, brother of B.J. Penn.
