As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported on Thursday, Cincinnati plays host to the promotion's upcoming "Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals" event.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed the report at Friday's "Strikeforce Challengers 17: Voelker vs. Bowling III" post-event press conference, which took place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
It's the first-ever Strikeforce event in Cincinnati and the just the second-ever in Ohio, which also saw the state's capital, Columbus, host "Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson" back in March.
"Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals" takes place at the 17,000-seat U.S. Bank Arena, which is located on the Cincinnati riverfront.
Cincinnati hasn't hosted a major MMA show since 2007, when UFC 77 also took place at U.S. Bank Arena. At the event, middleweight champ Anderson Silva defended his title with a second-round TKO of Rich Franklin in a rematch and the night's pay-per-view headliner.
The current lineup for "Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals" includes:
- Champ Ronaldo Souza vs. Luke Rockhold (for middleweight title)
- Daniel Cormier vs. Antonio Silva (heavyweight grand prix semifinal)
- Josh Barnett vs. Sergei Kharitonov (heavyweight grand prix semifinal)
- Roger Gracie vs. Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal
- Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante vs. Yoel Romero*
- Maximo Blanco vs. Josh Thomson
